Future of FireDustyBaker2

By Fro Dog

Well, here is the post I have been trying to put up for the last couple weeks and I finally have a chance to now so here it goes:

As I said in October after the overpaid assholes that play on the North Side of Chicago were down for the count, I said to myself and to you guys that I was done as a fan. After 17 years of all the screaming at the tv, the throwing of the hats against the wall and being depressed at the end of every damn season, it is time for me to move on. Most are sticking around and that is fine. It is just I know for fact that no matter what players are on that team or who is running it, that they are never going to win it all. I have finally accepted that it is fact. So why should I be invested emotionally and financially in something that I am never going to be satisfied with? It is simply not worth it.

I think regardless that I have a girl that really cares about me that I have been with quite a while now,  she did not factor in this decision at all as some people would think it did. I would not give something up for anybody. I think I would have done the same thing regardless of I was with her or not. I make my own decisions and they are made for myself only and not for anybody else. If I give up something, I do it for my own good. No. I am not violent nor would I ever to be anybody. It is done and over with. No more of this shit. I will be happy for once. There are a lot of things that we have wanted to do like take some drives to near cities and possibly long distances just to sight see. Whatever it is, I will find better things to do than put up with the shit that I use to be involved in from March to October every year. Enough is enough.

So with that being said, I am asking anybody on here who has been with this crew these last few years: Who wants to take over the writing on this site? I will still be the administrator and I will check up every now and then. The person who writes the articles will only be in charge of what they write and edit without editing the formats of the site or articles. WordPress requires you to register a name but we will take care of that once I find someone to be able to write.

The only couple things I ask for you in return is that you promise to update the site with at least one or two posts a week just like I did and you agree to treat everyone with respect that I did. I am sure that will not be a problem but I am throwing that out there right now. If you need to know how to start up a post, just look at the past articles from last year and that will show you how to make sure things go smoothly.

Just let me know who wants to do the writing from here on out. I will have your email addresses when you guys post the comments. Once again, I thank all of you for sticking around.

THANK YOU Fro Dog for establishing this site when bobbyd disappeared. What a great outlet to vent (very important for Cubs fans).

I have greatly enjoyed conversing – and ranting – with/at EVERYBODY that contributes here…and hope to continue the discourse as time allows in 2009…

I sincerely hope that somebody will step up and keep this site going. I’m not able to follow the Cubs closely on a daily basis plus the music biz further complicates matters…just not in a position to volunteer at this time, plus many of you are better qualified.

    What else?

Until they win it all, color it PATHETIC.

    tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…

  2. ksmc2000 Says:

I’ll second that genre. Fro Dog, you stepped up to the plate when it looked like this following was going to disappear. Most of the core members have been active on here during the off-season. And when you created a forum to bitch about the Bears, and cheer for the revival of the Blackhawks has been great.

I don’t blame you one bit for making the decision that you have reached. It takes a big man to divorce himself from something that he has poured so much time, money, and emotion into. After the playoff sweep to the Dodgers, I told myself that I was not going to be so emotionally attached to the Cubs next season. But after about a month of feeling sorry for myself, I knew that I couldn’t stay away.

As far as taking over this site, I’d be happy to help you out with it, if you want to remain in the administration role. I could try to keep a daily thread or update going. My only problem is that I work the afternoon shift for 10/12 hours a day, including some weekends. I wouldn’t have alot of time for researching the day-to-day activities once the season starts. I spend a couple hours a day at the computer to catch up on what’s going on in the world of sports after my long day at work to unwind before bed. I would not be available to post game time threads though.

  3. ksmc2000 Says:

    Fro Dog,

Best of luck to you and your girlfriend in your future ventures. In my relationship, I’m the calming force for my girlfriend Kris, who screams at the TV when the Cubs are playing like shit. It’s kinda funny. She wasn’t a Cub fan until we got together 17 years ago. I wouldn’t change a thing. I always wanted to meet a girl that loved the Cubs as much as I do.

  4. TDubbs Says:

You are the biggest pussy I have ever heard of in my entire life.

  5. Jon Says:

Considering what I know of Chad’s romantic history, that’s quite an achievement.

  6. PenFoe Says:

Thank you so much for saying what needed to be said.

It’s still real to me, damnit!

  7. PenFoe Says:

NONE OF YOU KNOW FRO AT ALL!

  8. genrebuster Says:

Fact: Pussy does not always involve Romance.

  9. Ron Santo's Legs Says:

    Hey Fro,

The sheeple lead by “TDubbs” and “PenFoe” are here.

Somebody needs to shut the damn door on these clowns.

    BAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

  10. genrebuster Says:

It’s most regrettable that “yes we can” does NOT apply to

    1. Eliminating the sheeple

    or

    2. The Cubs winning a World Series SINCE 1908

    baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    PATHETIC.

  11. Jonny Dave Floyd Says:

When I came to this here site, I didn’t have no idea what to expect. I can say with all the legitimacy I can muster that it does suck. But it ain’t gotta stay that a way, y’all. I know a pretty cool dude that could make this place smell like pancakes, if ya catch my drift. He spells pretty good, he’s mostly clean, and the rest of the losers here can sure as shootin’ count on him to lead ‘em outta the storms of real life. If we don’t get together pretty dang quick, then it’s gonna be Dolly Madison for the likes of us. Just give him a chance is all’s I’m sayin’. He goes by Tip and I’m proud to call him “friend”.

  12. Can't Hardly Wait Says:

I’m calling and I want my lines back.

  13. chucky Says:

Obviously, we are loosing the war on drugs.

  14. genrebuster Says:

chucky, no worries…somebody probably left the dang barn door open at the Essians, a few youngins escaped…etc.

also, I’m hearing through the grapevine that the Cubs are gonna win it all in 2009!

    Great news!

  15. IrishYeti Says:

I’ll take the site… And I’m being serious, not an ass.

  16. Dave Says:

Where did all the crazy new-jacks come from? That’s what I want to know. Happy Valentines Day to all the dudes who got a good woman in their life. And Happy Singles Awareness Day to anyone else.

    Oh, and Go Cubs!

  17. captain1kirk Says:

Thank you for keeping this site alive Fro Dog! I do not have the time at the moment to take over a site but would be willing to help out anyone that steps in. I have been busy trying to survive in a world filled with fucking wall street crooks who some how have robbed me blind.

Fro Dog I know that you are in some kind of bi polar phase regarding the Cubs but you are a fan and will always be a fan. Please warn the young lady you are with that this is a disease. I have chosen to not support the team till we win but I still keep my eye on them. I love the Cubs and baseball and you do too. Women come and women go but every year we play ball.

I notice we have some sheeple assholes on here so ignore them, they are the problem.

  18. genrebuster Says:

    Bravo.

What the hell…if the site goes to bullpen by committee, I’m happy to contribute a thread from time to time.

  19. Matt Stairs Superfan Says:

Keep your head up Fro. Maybe they will finally win it when they have players who can actually take a pitch, pitchers who can actually throw strikes in playoff games and a manager who knows how to manage in the playoffs.

I thought about giving up a few years ago but I got sucked right back in a couple months into the season. As Captain1Kirk said, this is a disease that cannot be cured. Once you are a fan, you are for life.

  20. ksmc2000 Says:

The Cubs future success has already cleared one hurdle. That’s being rid of those corporate bastards at the Tribune. I’m curious as to what direction the Rickett’s family will take. I think they will have Hendry on a short leash to produce a championship team.

  21. Dave Says:

Oh my god, some sense possibly coming out of the Cubs organization?

Soriano could be moved out of the leadoff spot!!

    STOP THE PRESSES!!

  22. TDubbs Says:

    Kirk .. this is brilliant
” I have chosen to not support the team till we win but I still keep my eye on them. I love the Cubs and baseball and you do too.”

I can’t even think of an insult to give to you b/c you’ve done enough with just saying that. Thank you in advance for your retort about sheeple or some homosaxual internet word you’ll call me.

  23. chucky Says:

    Homosaxual?

    Learn how to spell, dumb-ass.

  24. The Ghost of Leo Durocher Says:

Now now TDubbs….perhaps if you attend to your studies, you’ll one day mature and finally understand that it is indeed possible to “follow” a team–but NOT support the organization/ownership…by refusing to purchase team merchandise, attend games, support their advertisers…etc.

When a team hasn’t won a championship in 100 years, the organization STINKS…plain and simple. If you can’t fathom that concept, then perhaps you’ll agree with me when I state “the sky is green” or “1+1+3″ or “Alfonso Soriano is a fabulous leadoff hitter”.

On a different note: is “homosaxual” a new type of reed instrument technique…or was that merely a spelling error?

Good luck with your studies (the 3 r’s and a little baseball history).

  25. The Ghost of Leo Durocher Says:

    I apologize: “1 + 1 + 3″ is rather obtuse. What do you think of “1 + 1 =3″?

  26. genrebuster Says:

chucky…you beat me to it. Now would be a good time for Mitch to reappear!

  27. chucky Says:

Where the hell has Mitch been keeping himself, genre?

  28. Mitch Cumstein Says:

    Did someone say my name?

Hell, even I know that these guys such as TDubbs are ignorant little shits.

I agree. You can still follow and watch a team without supporting them. I can follow the Bears but does that mean that I buy a jersey or go to their games? Absolutely not. I gave up my season tickets seven years ago.

  29. chucky Says:

    Hello Mitch! Welcome back!!

  30. RV Says:

Keep fighting the good fight, guys. By not wearing Under Armour and not buying tickets and not enjoying the games on television, you’re really sticking it to Jim Hendry. Now he’ll think twice before making his next boneheaded trade!

  31. Ron Santo's Legs Says:

I am saying this with all seriousness: Can we all just get along? I mean fuck. If people from other sites do not agree with what some people say here, then just disagree with some respect with that person’s thoughts.

How old are some of you guys at the other blogs? Then act like it.

For God’s sake. Big deal of someone doesn’t want to follow a team or buy merchandise. That is their belief. Does that affect the others? Not one bit. So quit acting like children.

  32. morpheus Says:

So says the same guy who said

    “Hey Fro,

The sheeple lead by “TDubbs” and “PenFoe” are here.

Somebody needs to shut the damn door on these clowns.

    BAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!”

  33. captain1kirk Says:

    TDubbs,

A homosaxual is someone like you who fucks saxophones. I found some words on the internet to call you let’s see now fucking moron sounds real good.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

  34. captain1kirk Says:

Hi Mitch missed you old cumstain!!

  35. IrishYeti Says:

TDubbs does have secks with a saxophone if you consider my ass a saxophone.

  36. genrebuster Says:

uh oh……………IrishYeti. That last comment MIGHT disqualify you from taking over the site…can somebody check with the Board of Directors? What does Senator Burris think?

Nice to see Kirk and Mitch getting along…damn, maybe anything IS possible!

    Morpheus….hypocrisy is everywhere!

    And yet, hope springs eternal.

  37. chucky Says:

Yes, hope does spring a kernal.

  38. Matt Stairs Superfan Says:

I had no idea that someone’s opinion (Fro’s post) would trigger such chaos with another blog. This is childish.

As Ron Santo’s Legs pointed out, no one on this site is trying to cause trouble. You guys have your blog and we here have ours.

Nobody on here is more important than another. An opinion is an opinion and nothing else and it shouldn’t bother someone that much on another blog. Just let it go and move on.

  39. MadCityMac Says:

Frodog, Thanks again for getting this started. I wish I had the time to help out on here; any offers from anyone NOT A SHEEPLE should be considered. Good luck with the girlfriend! The good ones are hard to find, believe me!

  40. TDubbs Says:

The biggest question you turds need to ask yourselves, during your orange slices & Hi-C break at your next LARPing convention, is this: now that Fro’s girlfriend is safe from all the beatings she would have been taking if he were watching the Cubs, who is going to take his championship belt?

  41. firebadkermit Says:

I see that Chucky watched Boston Legal

  42. chucky Says:

    Many times.

  43. genrebuster Says:

    A little history:

The long-time regulars here migrated from “the original” firedustybaker.com.

That site existed for quite some time before I logged on…and I discovered it about 3 years ago. I believe it had over 1300 registered users when bobbyd (the creator/admin) mysteriously “vanished” sometime after his July 9, 2008 post.

One of the interesting things about that site (to me) was the diversity of the regular contributors. Many regular posters — myself included — do not live in/near Chicagoland…our ages range from 20 something to 70+ and the majority of us have never met “in-person”.

Sure, there was the occasional “flame from an outsider”, some of which fueled some pretty hilarious rants…but there was also a great deal of serious discussion and observations, some directly related to the Cubs…and some not. It generally made for a pretty interesting read and made it easier for me to continue keeping up with the Cubs during the PATHETIC tenure of Dusty Baker. Yes, the team has improved somewhat since Baker departed.

Those of us from the old site may not “know Fro” like some of you from hirejimessian.com do…we only know him through his posts at the original firedustybaker.com and his work here. I appreciate that he has taken the time/expense to create this site and keep it going this long.

If you choose to support Hendry and/or the current ownership…that is fine. It is your right. But many of us here will vehemently disagree with you and there is plenty of sound evidence/argument to back it up…check the archives: http://firedustybaker.com/nucleus/

As for the smug, wink wink, pat on the ass fratboy bullshit insults that have appeared of late…I find it boring.

For better or worse, a person following the Cubs for 30 years or more will have a different perspective than one who has followed the team for 15 or less. Both perspectives are valid…respect mine and I’ll respect yours.

As for “sheeple”: they exist in great numbers and IMOP are largely responsible for much of what is wrong today in the world.

YOU just might be a “sheeple” if:

    1. You continue to frequent – and spend your hard earned cash – at mediocre restaurants/bars, over and over again…because your friends do.

    2. The only television/news you watch is “primetime”…or major network.

    3. The only books you read are “national bestsellers”.

    4. You think the majority of contestants on American Idol are “really talented”…(must be, right?)

    5. You blindly follow and support leaders (political or otherwise)…even when they make “bad decisions”…(over and over again).

    6. You believe everything you read or hear without further investigation.

    7. You agree that just because they pay $8 a gallon in Germany, we shouldn’t complain when gas exceeds $2 a gallon here.

    ………….etc.

Hopefully the sale of the Cubs is completed soon. Hopefully the new owners will do a better job than the Tribune…and their predecessors (since 1908) have done. Hopefully the Cubs will win a WS in our lifetime(s). If not, it’s not the end of the world…just bad baseball.

As for not supporting the team, ie. abstaining from buying tickets/merchandise …when peoples’ wallets are affected, they pay attention…as many of you are likely noticing.

fdb.com was created in part to give longtime Cub fans who are sick and tired of quietly accepting mediocrity — year after year after year – a chance to speak out.

There are more than enough sheeple alternative sites available, complete with blindly optimistic drivel available to anybody who prefers that position.

    baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

  44. RV Says:

The point is not that you are “wrong” to carry out your nonsensical and completely pointless “boycott” of the Cubs organization.

The point is that it IS possible to enjoy Cubs baseball without being a Rosenbloom-esque misanthrope who watches every game waiting for the other shoe to drop, who considers an Alfonso Soriano strikeout or a Neal Cotts walk to be “SO CUB” rather than one of thousands of shitty plays that happen to every team over the course of a baseball season.

If you think you’re entitled to some illogical, impending sense of doom just because you’ve watched x amount of years more baseball than I have, that’s fine. But don’t suggest you’re somehow a better fan than me because I have the audacity to actually enjoy a good baseball team just as much as I would bitch about a bad baseball team.

  45. Ron Santo's Legs Says:

Where did we put in any post that one of us is better than the other?

So do you think that not winning a championship is satisfying?

I am speaking for everybody on this site when I say that anything short of a championship in any sport is a FAILURE. Win a title or bust.

  46. RV Says:

“Where did we put in any post that one of us is better than the other?”

I apologize for JUMPING to the wrong CONCLUSION. But genrebuster’s unfunny, Jeff Foxworthy-esque rant about “sheeple” sure seemed to be aimed at us foolish outsiders.

“So do you think that not winning a championship is satisfying?”

No, I don’t. But I also don’t think that Jim Hendry is an idiot or Lou Piniella is a moron or Alfonso Soriano is a coward solely because of a 6 game sample when the Cubs happened to play some really shitty baseball.

“I am speaking for everybody on this site when I say that anything short of a championship in any sport is a FAILURE. Win a title or bust.”

I agree. But I’ll take my chances with enjoying 6 months of good baseball and hoping for the best in the crapshoot that is the postseason, rather than deluding myself into thinking that I can affect the decisions of Cubs management by not buying a Geovany Soto jersey or bringing a sandwich into the ballpark rather than buying a hot dog.

  47. genrebuster Says:

    RV.

To be clear, I was NOT trying to be funny with the “Foxworthy-esque rant about sheeple”…I was just trying to make a point.

I’m not suggesting that I’m a better fan than you–or vice-versa: again, we can always agree to disagree. Perhaps you follow the team on more of a day to day basis than I do.

Look, if you feel good about spending your money on Cubs merchandise, etc. …then do it. But don’t tell me that if I choose not to follow suit, then “I’m wrong”…if you believe that, then I say “no, you’re wrong.” I’m not thrilled with how the Tribune has handled the team and there are many others here who can give specific examples of what I’m referring to. I can still enjoy a Cubs game on TV or keep up with the ballscores on-line. And I always enjoy a Cubs win…even the ugly ones.

As far as an “impending sense of doom”, I believe DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM is posted frequently on another site that you frequent…yes, I know it’s a joke and I enjoy checking in there from time to time. I do enjoy the game of baseball and every year I follow the Cubs…hoping that “maybe this will be the year.” If anything, that makes me somewhat of an optimist, given the reality of the Cubs since 1908.

The recent posts by those who haven’t frequented this site have certainly livened things up recently, Thank You for that. As for “foolish outsiders”, I personally don’t think that of anybody here. As I stated, the previous site had many regular contributors and that kept it interesting. Differences of opinion are welcomed…but it’s only fair: ANYBODY that dishes it out should expect to get some back…hopefully served with a sense of humor.

BTW, if I do visit Wrigley this year — AFTER the team is sold — I will definitely buy a hotdog, maybe 2.

It has been 101 years since the Cubs won a WS Championship. Like it or not, it’s true…and unprecedented in professional sports (I think). A Cubs WS title will dramatically change the perception of this team and organization, not to mention the mindset of many fans…………..can we agree on that?

If you still don’t get it, watch a rerun of Game 1 of last years NLCS…check out the fans before and after the Loney grand slam (just one example).

The fact that Hendry kept Baker around for the 2nd half of 2005 and all of 2006 makes him an idiot in my book, other questionable moves notwithstanding. As for Soriano, like many athletes he’s over-rated and overpaid…definitely not Mr. October. Lou? I don’t know what to think…where was the fire and emotion that he displayed during most of the regular season? Given the way the team played in September, I wasn’t really surprised by the outcome. That said, they did win 97 games and the division.

  48. The Ghost of Leo Durocher Says:

dammit 97 wins and no fall classic those bums

    boo boo boo

  49. Dave Says:

I love this site, and the old one too. And I will admit, that I WAS a supporter of Dusty pretty much until mid-2005. And I could never really find all the wonderful “terms of endearment” given to Cubs players all that funny. For example: Latoya Hawkins, Freddie “fuckhead” Bynum, Ryan Dumpster, SorryOhno, Cunt Mercker, Carrie Wood, little Z, etc. I just found them to be at the maturity level of schoolboys, as creative as some of them were. But hey, they eventually grew on me. And there were times when I agreed with calling our first baseman Doubleplay Dlee. And jokes about Dusty and Nefi being gay together are still beyond funny!

Sometimes it seems our Cub players are only allowed one or two mistakes before they become the butt of our jokes. Like when Dempster had that one bad game after a stellar start and everybody wanted his head.

But I will say this. Give me a professional athlete that plays for the love of the game and not how much money he makes, and I will support him no matter how bad he sucks.

  50. mlbtvsucks Says:

What a bunch of boobs… seriously! Fro, you did a good job by having us migrate over here, but I’m sure 5 minutes out of your day to post a new thread occasionally can’t be that bad for your personal relationship! And to admit to putting the Cubs before your woman… you’re giving our favorite team way too much power over your personal life. Sure, Derrek Lee’s DP’s did not make my day extra bad/good, but at the end of the day I have my own life to worry about. I view this site occasionally from my blackberry, and it doesn’t really interrupt my routine. I read all your posts while pooping. How about taking your lady to Disneyland and watching a Dodgers v. Cubs game while you’re there? Shit, when Cubs were in Arlington playing the Steroid Brotherhood a couple years ago, I got drunk with the lady, had some butt sex with her, and went to Hurrican Harbor the next day to satisfy her entertainment needs.

My point is, the Cubs can be a good ingredient in your life, but fuck dude, let them be the pinch of salt or some other asenine ingredient. Shit mother fucker, I love all you stupid ass bastards, but you’re too damn obsessed! However, you do provide me with entertainment. So keep complaining nonstop, and be sure to keep publishing how a professional baseball team causes relationship problems.
